NEWSLETTER: MARCH 2018

Dear Redcliffe Hockey Community

The works to replace the turf field have now been signed off and completed. Not only does the turf look fantastic but feedback so far has been that it is awesome to play on. This Saturday, March  17th, we will have a short formal ceremony to note the official opening of the new turf, it will take place between the Division 1 Women’s and Division 1 Men’s fixtures around 4.15 pm. The ceremony will place on record our thanks to attending dignitaries and the hard-working Committee that spent tireless hours coordinating the turf installation. For most of our turf seniors this will be their first game experience on the new turf, I hope you enjoy the moment and look forward to your feedback.

This event coincides with our first formal social event of the season, Club Day Number 1.  For our diehard fans, you will be able to watch six consecutive games featuring Redcliffe Teams, starting with the Division 3 women at midday, and culminating with the Division 3 Men pushing back at 7.30pm.  Our social committee is working hard to put the finishing touches on some fun and entertaining activities, which will include a meat raffle, music and a competition to win tickets to a hockey session at the Commonwealth Games.  As ever our bar will be well stocked, including a tropical cocktail option for adults, and a range of hot and cold refreshments will be available from the canteen. So don the red and green, invite the friends and family and give Redcliffe a true home ground advantage on club day. I hope to see as many juniors there as possible cheering on our seniors too.

This first Club Day marks the first league games of the season for our Ladies 1st Grade Team against QUT, which is also their first game in the top division for several years. Head coach Steve Lancaster and his support team have worked hard over the last few years to build for this moment. They start at 3pm so please come on down to support. The other ladies teams (Div 2 to Div 5) have now played a few league games.

Saturday is also the first games of the season for the Senior Mens section, with John Beale leading the Division 1 team against Labrador at 4.30pm, followed by the Division 2 team at 6pm and Division 3 at 7:30pm.  Labrador have been challenging for honours in the last few seasons and will prove a good challenge for the men.

This weekend is also the National Under 18 championships in Tasmania. Congratulation to Johannah Goschnick, Alyssa Ferns, Jordn Office, Shae Staples, Jessie Staples, Jessica Moffat, Anniston Chappell, Briana Suey, Ella White, Tatum Stewart, and Shaun Smith.

The dynamics of team sport has changed significantly over recent years. One of my goals for the season is to really get a feel for what our members, and the wider hockey community want from the Redcliffe Leagues Hockey Club.  Feel free to email me at redcliffepresident@hotmail.com or grab me for a chat if you see me around the sidelines.

Good luck with your early season fixtures. Train hard, play hard, and work together as a team.
